Singer Liam Payne revealed he was sober in 2022, after opening up on the Diary of a CEO podcast about struggling with alcohol and drug abuse during the height of One Direction’s fame. He returned to his YouTube channel last summer to record a personal message to fans about his absence from the platform, in which he outlined a rehab facility he visited in Louisiana and that he has made the choice to go sober. “12 and a half years ago I was in active addiction,” Bower tweeted in July 2022. “For anyone who wakes up thinking, ‘Oh God not again.’ I promise you there’s a way,” he continued. “I’m so grateful to be where I am, I’m so grateful to be sober. I’m so grateful to be. Remember, we are all works in progress.”

It comes as she recalled her early days with the band, when she realised that – during their rise to fame – she had issues with alcohol. The former Nickelodeon regular speaks openly about how he stopped drinking alcohol with the help of a 12-step programme.
After leaving the program, Taylor stated, “Not being drunk is the only way I’m going to stay alive.” She relapsed in 1988 but celebrities ruined by alcohol then went on to live a sober lifestyle until her death in 2011 at the age of 79. In 2008, she published a book called “Wishful Drinking” about her struggles with alcohol. In the book, she writes how she used alcohol as a coping mechanism and how drinking worsened those deep-seated issues.
“It got to the point where all of my life has escalated and I couldn’t suppress it,” Simpson said. “I’m so grateful to be where I am, I’m so grateful to be sober,” he said. Cooper also said he was grateful to be sober when he played Jackson Maine in “A Star Is Born.”
