Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on the underlying thoughts and behaviors that caused the problem of addiction in the first place and may cause a relapse. Negative feelings are common in substance abuse disorders, and if not recognized, they can cause co-occurring disorders. This center offers a variety of custom treatment tailored to individual recovery. Currently available are Aftercare Support, Drug Rehab, Dual-Diagnosis, Inpatient, Outpatient, Residential, Sober-Living / Half-Way, with additional therapies available as listed below.
With steady clinical oversight and an experienced team of counselors, Vanderburgh House provides intensive substance abuse treatment services to 28 adult men for up to six months. Middlesex Human Service Agency Inc (MHSA) is a registered 501(c)(3) public charity based in Boston, MA, offering recovery programs for adults affected by substance use disorders. Their men’s recovery programs provide intensive services to help patients achieve sobriety and Vanderburgh House transition into stable living environments. Brookford House is located in Dorchester and provides a safe supportive recovery environment for parents in early recovery who also need help to secure permanent affordable housing. This brings together all the expertise and services MHSA offers in both our recovery and shelter programs.
The program enables residents to help themselves maintain sobriety while renewing their careers and responsibilities to their families and to society. We believe in teaching individuals the skills and problem solving abilities needed for self-sufficiency. We are a (6) six month program, with a variety of groups to help our clients cope with their substance abuse issues.

Inpatient
Our helpline is offered at no cost to you and with no obligation to enter into treatment. In some cases, we charge our verified partner a modest cost per call, which helps us cover the costs of building and maintaining our directory. We do not receive any commission or fee that is dependent upon which treatment provider a visitor ultimately selects. Due to its huge success, the 12-step program is included as a part of other substance abuse treatments. It begins with the individuals accepting that they are addicts, and they understand its consequences.
Rehab aftercare programs offer customized, wraparound support for clients in the maintenance phase of recovery. Many clients enroll in drug rehab immediately after completing intensive inpatient or residential care. Services encompass outpatient treatment but often extend long beyond the completion of a formal recovery program and typically include a variety of medical, mental health, and social service programs. Peer coaching, relapse prevention, 12 step program induction, and related services are commonly available. The MHSA Vanderburgh House is a facility that provides a variety of services to those struggling with addiction. They offer alcohol rehab, dual diagnosis, adult and elderly programs, military rehab, men’s and young adult rehab, inpatient and outpatient care, sober living homes, aftercare support, and family and individual therapy.

Boston, a historic coastal city, offers a vibrant arts and culture scene with world-class museums, parks, and restaurants. The city has seen a 36% increase in opioid-related deaths from 2019 to 2022, and between 50 and 81 percent of all seized drugs in Suffolk County tested positive for fentanyl in 2023. Peter Donovan became the MRATC’s Executive Director and began expanding services in the areas of shelter for people experiencing homelessness and food for those who cannot afford enough.

Upon the successful completion of the program, patients transition into stable, sober living environments where they can continue to thrive as productive members in our communities. Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). As one of MHSA’s first Boston-based programs and a cornerstone substance use disorder recovery home in South Boston, Vanderburgh House has been helping residents reestablish a sober lifestyle for over 20 years.
